MSMEs account for 90% of businesses, 60-70% of employment, and 50% of GDP worldwide, according to the World Bank. As the backbone of societies, MSMEs
significantly contribute to local economies, sustaining livelihoods for many citizens. However, MSMEs in the dairy sector often face challenges such as inadequate cold storage and processing facilities, leading to spoilage, inconsistent product quality, and reduced competitiveness.
Recognizing the critical role of MSMEs in reducing malnutrition and improving food systems globally, Techwin Limited partners with county governments, non-governmental organizations, dairy cooperatives, and farmers to offer sustainable and innovative solutions. We supply equipment that strengthens MSMEs' capacity to produce safe, nutritious food—mainly milk and its value-added products—making them accessible and affordable.
To address these challenges, Techwin Limited provides comprehensive solutions, including solar-powered cold storage and advanced dairy processing equipment. We offer energy-efficient solar milk cooling tanks and cold rooms that maintain optimal storage temperatures, reducing milk spoilage in areas with unreliable electricity. Additionally, we supply modern pasteurizers, homogenizers, and automated milk dispensing machines, ensuring milk safety, uniform quality, and hygienic distribution, thereby enhancing product value and shelf life. Our equipment supports MSMEs in food processing to bolster their production of safe, nutritious food. Furthermore, Techwin offers extensive training programs on the operation and maintenance of dairy equipment, alongside ongoing technical support. This helps improve best practices in dairy handling and processing, ensuring the optimal performance and longevity of the equipment.
MSMEs play a crucial role in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship, driving economic growth and job creation. By providing a platform for new ideas and businesses, they help diversify markets and enhance competition, leading to improved products and services for consumers. This dynamic nature of MSMEs contributes to economic resilience, particularly during economic downturns or disruptions. Moreover, the social impact of MSMEs is significant. They often operate within local communities, providing jobs and economic opportunities where they are needed most. This localized presence enables MSMEs to understand and meet the unique needs of their communities, contributing to social stability and development. Their success can lead to broader social benefits, including poverty reduction and an improved quality of life for local populations.
A case in point is the Tulaga Farmers Cooperative Society (TFCS) in Nyandarua County, a marketing cooperative society that supports farmers by collecting, processing, and marketing their milk. Over the years, TFCS has been at the forefront of serving dairy farmers' interests in Nyandarua County. Through strategic partnerships with organizations like Techwin, TFCS has empowered its members through continuous training, increased milk production, and established a functioning value-addition plant with a well-equipped yogurt production line.
As we mark World Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise Day, we continue to support MSMEs in Kenya by offering grassroots training on the benefits of value addition, its profitability, and food safety best practices. We also provide technical assistance in equipment handling, facilitate business-to-business linkages, support innovation challenges, and more. Our holistic approach ensures that MSMEs are well-equipped to thrive and contribute to the broader goal of improving global food systems.
