On 24th July 2024, Techwin Limited reaffirmed its commitment to improving technological innovations in the dairy sector by participating in the Dairytech Africa
International Exhibition & Conference panel discussion as a thought leader in incorporating renewable energy into this value chain. The event, themed "Dairy for Health and Wealth," held at the Kenya International Convention Center (KICC), was officially inaugurated by Jonathan Mueke, Principal Secretary of the State Department for Livestock Development. The exhibitions showcased the latest technologies and innovative solutions shaping the future of the dairy industry.
The session, moderated by Dr. George Wafula Wanjala, a senior research scientist at the Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute (KIRDI), featured a panel discussing value addition and sustainable systems in dairy. The focus was on how green technological innovations are impacting the Kenyan dairy value chain, creating sustainable businesses, generating jobs, and spurring economic development in marginalized counties.
Engineer Davis Koech, the Head of the Projects Implementation Department at Techwin, highlighted the need for sustainable solutions in the value chain and discussed processing systems from milking to the sale of the final product that use renewable energy. He highlighted Techwin’s contributions towards modernizing the dairy industry through eco-friendly innovations supporting green technology, including the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) certified solar cold storage solutions and biogas-powered pasteurization systems.
Eng. Davis emphasized Techwin's role in helping dairy farmers and stakeholders realize their value addition potential through locally manufactured customized equipment. This equipment increases productivity, ensures the quality and safety of milk products, diversifies value-added dairy products, and boosts income across the value chain.
“Our solar-powered cold storage solutions enable all farmers, including those in areas without electricity, to practice value addition without worrying about post-harvest losses due to milk spoilage, thereby ensuring the safety of milk and its products,” said Eng. Davis. “Techwin's equipment is designed to be affordable for both large-scale farmers and cooperatives, as well as small-scale farmers, without compromising on quality.”
The event was also attended by Margaret Rugut Kibogy, Managing Director of the Kenya Dairy Board, Ms. Tito Tipo, FAO Country Representative in Kenya, KEBS, and Ministry of Agriculture officials, among other dignitaries. Their presence underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in advancing the dairy industry. The successful exhibition highlighted the crucial role of technological innovations in fostering a sustainable and prosperous future for the dairy sector in Kenya.
